Stop reminiscing about the demise of love,
revisiting its grave, overgrown with weeds,
unearthing a skeleton now courted by worms
that writhe and wriggle with ceremony.

A scavenger possesses a blood-stained mouth,
befouled by the carrion of heart-breakings.
It does not matter whose fault it was
now love lies deep, some bones that sleep.

Cease reflecting on very old wounds.
Why tax your memory with grievances?
Why measure the length and depth of scars,
or endow the stabs with visibility?

Stop stirring your foaming chagrin
in the best of witches’ cauldrons.
No magic results from heating sorrows.
With new blisters they’re likely to bubble.

Cease resurrecting gigantic fears
that plagued your childhood with despair.
Instead, remember how you discarded
your chewing gums when they lost their taste.

Stop memorizing what your brother or sister
once said when they were very angry.
Abusive words when stored would rankle.
Discard them with some positive thinking.

Cease raking up domestic squabbles
that fester in your mind, a gangrene.
Stop nibbling at the glories of the past,
whose missing remains make the present lame.
