Feeling Sorry for Myself

How much time must go by
before I get to feel
sorry for myself

Before I stop thinking back
to the time when I could run
and jump without fear of waking
up surrounded by people in green gowns

Before I stop having dreams
about people with twisted faces
and missing limbs who wonder
who will make love to them on a wheelchair

So, look me up after
you’ve been in pain every day and night
for as long you can remember before you tell
me I’m just feeling sorry for myself
