Solutions

I dream of solutions as I wade in the dark of night’s ocean,
sort recipes I wish to discuss with my Beloved,
measure space in our kitchen for an alternate lifestyle.
I grew up on an island, tethered to mainland by
bridges beaded with commuters seeking daily bread.
As the Sound lubricates the shores, pale water
spreads its green tongue over my confused anatomy.
Trembling is reserved for sorrow, or welcoming thereof.
There was nothing tropical about childhood,
yet it lingers, sunlit water sheer as mermaid’s breath,
curls of seaweed surround my anxious feet.
I settle for material transport, Palookaville digs,
water a vehicle unto itself and not a destination.
Is it too late to say I’m glad?
That the salt will never truly wash away?
I keep swimming in my dreams, cup of this, inch of that,
clear of sunset stealing the water’s light.
