until we were given nuclear bombs to play with.

The astronauts murdered the man on the moon
and left him unburied in one of the pop mark craters.

Ma and Pa told us the Tooth Fairy was real,
until the Nazis made a killing from gold fillings.

The biggest book tells us the tale of Jesus,
but he didn’t die for me because he was killed by you.

Ma and Pa told us the Easter Bunny was real,
then pastel eggs cracked salmonella during crucifixion.

How or why are we to know who or what is real,
growing old into a parent passing on the oral tradition of lies?
