I learned in the beginning
anger
from the angry two
who made me.

At first, I excelled
in something more
than anger.
By twenty I was done
with the world
and tried to die

but failed.
Humiliated, afraid
of another defeat,
I decided on life
with one stipulation—
eternal devotion
to playing

with words.
With words I stay
in the world,
even laugh at times.

For decades now
I have lived
exceptionally well,
my living, an art.
