Keep or Toss

    Fred stopped by the apartment to talk to Jenny and haul some items to the town dump’s “junk house,” a building filled with unwanted items too usable to throw away, things like semi-moth-eaten clothes or out-of-date electronics. Jenny texted that no one bought their bread machine at the tag sale, even with a $5 asking price. Fred could keep it or toss it, Jenny didn’t care which. She was gone when Fred arrived. Atop the bread machine, his tenth anniversary gift to her, Jenny left the divorce papers for him to sign. “Junk house,” Fred said to the empty room.
