of your pride,
your self-esteem,
and every belief you may uphold,
for you become the property of international war lords
who dictate every breath you inhale and exhale
within your own home.

Your childhood will be punctuated by air raids
and splinter bombs.
At school, you will learn how to seek shelter when the sirens blow.
Your adulthood is consumed in combating inflation
and every war-bred woe.
As for your old age,
it will be spent counting your losses
for having lived in a voluptuous zone,
whose body exudes natural gas,
phosphate,
and unblessed oil.
