Hope for the Weary

Broken
and tired —
not from without,
but from within.

I have never
been a slave —
nor dirt poor,
nor felt unloved.

But I have
felt the pain of others—
and more so today
than yesterday.

But my strength
is ebbing —
the taste of fruit
slipping from sweet to sour.

Seasons compete
for their time —
mountains rise, and
rivers disappear.

But nature lacks
the power —
we eternally
squander.

A constant marveling
of the virtuous —
against the
backdrop of war.

The back and forth
vying for power —
as if in the winning,
true victory could be found.
