The towering billboard on the highway
screaming in bold block letters
“WHEN YOU DIE YOU WILL MEET GOD!”
Out loud I screamed back Good!
god’s got a lot to answer for.
As I continued driving I began
compiling the list of things that
needed answers when
I passed another sign that said
“College of the Holy Cross”
and I wondered if in India they had
a “College of the Holy Cow.”
But I could not ponder these things for long
because I had to concentrate on driving
my life and the lives of others depended on it.
And religion is a distraction.
