A Memoir to the birth of death

Tajudeen Muadh

I saw sorrow climb unto the
Cliff of his shoulders, last night-
He said; I held her little frail fingers
and caressed her toes. She was 6 then,
yes! She was made to bury the placenta
that follows her birth, into a heap of trash at the yard,
he faced the crib with which she was entombed.

There he stood, at the same verandah,
Where on her toes, she jumped her lips
on his cheek and gave him a blunt
bold kiss perhaps a love bite too on that soft protruded skin above his chin.

Death, with his infallible machete hampered the sweet memories,
and buried her with those little hairs remaining in the wine glass of her memoir.

Like a babel in a war,
pulling scavengers in those hollow walls
in his skin left for grief and pain
to waddle and swim.

Neither is he waving a goodbye, nor is he singing
a hymn to her departed being,
he only faced the qibla and says some mutterings to his lord,
pushing marshmallows into his mouth salve his wounded heart
while he forces depraved petals into their anthers.

He has watched her grow, and watched her journey into the tomb
on the pregnant earth- ready to birth sorrow and grief into a chaotic
house.
