Wishes are made of stale cigarettes
Mixed with last night’s bourbon.
In the same way
That journeys are made
Of equal parts running away and running towards,
And by the time we realize
That the blood coursing through us
Is made of greed and melted ice cubes
It’s too late, even for the power of friendship.
So, stake your lives
On whores or horse races,
And buy new shades
To hide your hangovers.
Then the dirt on your shoes
Shouldn’t bother you anymore.
