Enlightenment

Richard Patterson

It started as a sensation deep within the inner recesses of his mind; a buried perception not fully conscious. He could see it externally in the setting of the sun and the rising of the moon; not a visual site but some undefined illusion plastered on the exterior of the heavenly bodies. What was it? he asked himself over and over. What is this ethereal thought that keeps rising at random intervals; right before sleeping at night, right, during a conversation with a friend, when walking alone down the suburban streets? Was it a true perception of external events yet to happen? Or just a side effect of all the drug usage?
Whatever it was, it was singularly frustrating; a puzzle with no obvious answer. It ate away at his internal complacency. Perhaps it was a foresight of some inner facet of precognition or a coming awareness of some altered state of consciousness. It was definitely real, not a random fixation of an irrational byproduct or some unknown stress or misconstrued meanderings of thoughts not created but surfacing haphazardly. As time marched mercilessly on there were small pieces added to the original subtle nuance, the ghostly subconscious of inner thought processes. It started to become ever so slightly clearer. It was the beginning of something deep seated and intriguing, a new way of perceiving everyday reality or even a new perspective upon his routine ways of being.
Somehow he knew that this was to be something of great importance; a breakthrough in his own personal emotional character. It started to become more concrete, more tangible, almost to the point where he could turn it over in his mind and examine the substance of the mysterious perception. Much to his unending curiosity, he knew that it was a foresight into his own irrational meanderings, his internal dialogue. It stemmed from long forgotten readings of mystic philosophies, abnormal psychology and changes in the perception of time itself. Not only was the phantom occurrence of the buried truism becoming clearer, he knew that this was an actual message from, perhaps, another source of intelligence; an astral being who had contacted him through nefarious methods and fleeting procedures. He knew he was about to become a changed man, no longer able to rest upon his ordinary habits and routines. He was about to find out some secret of life that had eluded him from adolescence and structuring of his moral and ethical codes of behavior.
Yes, it was an evolving recharging of his energy resources, his very soulful permanence. It was a saving of his precarious sanity, his intermittent peaceful longings and struggles with exquisite realities. The coming synchronicity was going to be mind-blowing. It was indeed a new found realization of his own state of being. What changes this was to bring about he could only speculate on. It’s possible that this new found consciousness would require different strategies for living; possibly a new set of friends, ambitions, convictions and downright common sense. It was finally here; now; and it was as he had suspected. It was a bold new step in the evolution of his earthly awareness. This was going to be his new way of life. No one knew of this change except he himself and he wasn’t going to tell anyone his secret. This was too precious to waste and that would be just what he would be doing if he related it to anyone. This was solely for him to explore, immerse himself in and come out a different sort of being.
