last night
one of my co-workers
wrote:
“I hate my life. Please end
my life” on a write off
sheet at work,
and i was concerned;
but everyone was so dismissive
of it as though they knew
she wouldn’t go through with it—

all i could think of was
my uncle
who actually did go through with
suicide without giving us
any warning,

and it made me angry that no one
took this seriously;

how do you not know this was a cry for help?

none of us know her well enough to
know if she was serious or not,
and though she crossed it out before the
night ended;

i was on high alert for the rest of the shift.
