Don’t ask me to thwart an armed intruder
if you are too selfish to give up your guns.

Ask me to soothe the nerves of
kids suffering from panic attacks
: PTSD kids, self-harm kids, anxious kids

Don’t ask me to deny the Holocaust if
doesn’t fit your white supremacist values.

Ask me to teach nouns, and verbs
to kids who were born with learning disabilities
: kids with autism, kids with ADHD, kids with intellectual disabilities

Don’t ask me to not say gay because you’re
afraid of your closeted fantasies becoming public.

Ask me to create a safe space for
kids who are different from you and me.
: minority kids, queer kids, trans kids

Don’t ask me to ban books which may be
the only time a child experiences another world.

Ask me to shelter and feed kids who do
not have food on their dinner tables at night
: abused kids, neglected kids, sheltered kids

Don’t ask me to not teach CRT when you are
afraid of losing your white privilege.

Ask me to love my kids and I will; all of them.
:beautiful, musical, athletic, goth, wallflowers, intellectual, and ones the fall between the cracks
