Kisses, Passionate Or Otherwise
Richard K. Williams
We were shopping at Job Lots
when the song “Passionate Kisses”
began playing throughout the store.
As we trundled down each aisle
with our wobbly wheeled carriage
I began to wonder about passion
how it belongs to youth.
Old scoundrels like me
remember it clearly but
age forces us to the sidelines
to watch young people play the actual game
It’s almost like watching
sports highlight films.
We applaud skilled achievements
then sharply draw in breath sharing
the discomfort in faux pas and failure
Not that our passions fade or dissipate
more that, they transform into something deeper
or retire to memories and fantasies.
Like the fantasy I experience when
Our friend, lovely, talented, local singer
Tina Charest sings “Passionate Kisses.”
Or the sudden pain I experienced
after revealing my fantasy to my wife.
Who doubled over in laughter and, inadvertently?
shoved the shopping cart into my ankles.
