From the Mouth of Deceased Writers

Richard LeDue

Metaphors can’t last forever, unlike the love
of cats, carrying half dead mice home
to their owners and first kisses
tasting of spit and loneliness,
leaving us no choice
but to eavesdrop on the Grim Reaper
behind rose bushes, as he fondles
the backside of fresh snow,
only for all of us to be seduced
by the lies we yank from the mouths
of deceased writers
about ink stained godhood,
when really, the dust probably believes
it’s writing immortal sonnets
in its own language of dead skin and dirt.
