Mirror

We are oft told
there is no other reality
yet I have felt its being
through myriad shining
panes of glass.
All those nights
I dreamed of you
not wanting to wake
without you
in my world.
Now so much time later
you come to me
in mirrors reflecting mirrors.
Reaching through prismed glass
somehow wanting to magically pull me
forth into the space between
where you now dwell.
It cannot be
is not the time.
We have no common language now.
Without speaking words
I try to make you somehow understand.
The wish for all the tomorrows
I would have given
to spend just one day with you
suddenly melts in but an instant
before the joy
of a single newly blossoming day.
This is my place here
which dwells more on nurturing
beginnings
than on ends.
I stop bow my head and stand there.
For one moment
blinking back tears.
Then I whisper
someday we will meet again.
I slowly go forward
into my future
gifted
with newly found strength.
I know I am healed now.
When I look in my mirror
I sense a new found sparkle in my eyes.
