Willing to See

“Did you see the wind?”
asked my friend.
“See the wind?” I repeated.
“How can you see
the wind? It’s invisible.”
“So is love,”
she replied. “But you
can see it,
everywhere, and all the
time. It’s in
your lover’s sculpted
brow;
in the heart of a child on
Christmas night;
in the eyes
of the pious at Easter.
It is
nowhere not present. But,”
she added,
“you must be willing to see.”
I turned my gaze across the
woodlands,
to the boughs bending
gracefully
to the forest floor; saw
the eagles rise
majestically through the
azure sky;
and beheld the verdant
grass growing
effortlessly beneath the
flaming
yellow sun. Turning
to my
friend, I told her,
“I can see the wind now.”
“How did
you find it?” she asked,
smiling.
“I found it’s contours,” I
told her,
“in the shadow of your
own wisdom.”
Then we both smiled.
