There was trouble back in
school today. Mitch had
been caught smoking again.
It was 1982 and this sort
of thing was still quite
bad behavior, compared
to these days.
He was marched to the
principal’s office, where
he was given his third
suspension. Why he wasn’t
expelled, we couldn’t figure
out. Suspension was bad
enough back then; it would
normally result in a beating.
Mitch said that wouldn’t
happen; it hadn’t the past
two times.
He was suspended the rest
of the week. He came
back to school unbruised.
The year went on.
