Cartoon days
have left me stumbling,
reaching for a hand
and laughing at the bubbles
I see over
everyone’s head
with a punch line
for every occasion.
Here’s some advice,
don’t live your life
like the man
down the street
just because you want to
fuck his wife.
If you’re offended
by these words
then welcome to
21st century America
where no opinion is acceptable
and freedom means
“Do you believe what I do?”
You don’t owe me anything,
I don’t owe you anything.
You don’t get to tell me what to do,
I don’t give a shit what you do.
Memes are our currency,
tweets our source of truth,
belligerence is rewarded,
kindness demeaned.
These are the days of caricature
as personality,
verbal diarrhea as news.
These are cartoon days
where talking animals
make more sense
than anyone.
