WHEN TITANS CLASH!
For Curtis Rose

C Ra McGuirt, 11/27/07

Two mythological deities
Battle atop a mountain vast
Sword of Righteousness against
Trident of Terror, and as they fight
They laugh and hurl jocularities:
“Well struck, comrade! I almost felt
That wicked blow! Is that your best?”
“Ye shall see, my friend when mine
Terrible Trident pierces your breast!
Hah! Have at it!” The clouds conceal
This clash of titans, as below
mortals fearfully tremble to hear
the clash and clang, the roaring jests
Atop the peak, which is neither Olympus
Or even Asgard. It is but
A table of dining, and the Gods?
Two mortal men who share a name
Though not a teleology
Their terrible weapons merely words
Of civil passion, and neither shall
Strike the final fatal blow
To send the other plunging down
To the wicked rocks below,
This night or any other night.
For them, the battle can’t be won
And not to fight would be no fun.
“What’d you say was for dessert?
What ho! Ambrosia! Share the mead!”
