Long Moonbeams In High Heels
Tom Squitieri
I stand robustly now
As I can’t sleep
The morning moon has captured
me completely
Again
It is always full, no matter what it shows to most
No resistance even tried. Why
bother?
It is a gift that I hope I deserve
and truly has taken me there
Once my mornings were different.
Staid somnolence
Now life breathes into me
My eyes are the stars that twinkle
As I perpend
Who may want to be part of this harlequin universe
My smile is wide and my heart is trying to sing in tune
I feel the scalene sketching of my body to
Those artists in the sky
Morning poses of the secret truths
Yearnings that now laugh truthfully
Candle lights burning smoke shaped words
Delights dallying until daybreak
The power of playing with celestial house money
As I once again — after decades — am
Betting on myself
