The Sun Still Shines Behind Veil

She watches the doctor’s steps
retreat from the sterile room,
depositing tides of disbelief
jarring crimson diagnosis and
dividing the streak-free world
outside the polished hospital window.

Calculated charts stamped by tests
Latin pronouncements
ferried by white-coat messengers
draw the curtains,
drain the blood and
crush the tabernacle.

The sun still shines
behind the curtain.
