Flummox

She acted without compunction, scathing
her mother, her husband, her friends
(who you could count even then on one
finger) her cockamamy ideas bereft
of even the simplest cohesion—and so she
found herself (or perhaps it was her other
self) at an imbroglio with no conception
of a way to turn. Pugnacious, recalcitrant,
wearing a red hat. She held a leather-clad
finger to her mouth and whistled
superciliously for a combobulated cab.
