Sky Quirks

Manic rain. Sudden.
Then nothing.
You can almost hear the sky thinking.
It is always postulating.
Never content with what it’s giving us.
One moment, silent as a rock.
The next, a hundred thousand cloud soldiers
with iron footwear.

It doesn’t consult with our grief.
where we bleed,
why we cry.
It pours down
when we are most vulnerable –
when we pour down.

It changes.
But into the heaviest jackets in the heat,
the thinnest of wardrobe
when the chills roar in.
Sure it can be blue and bright
and all the rest of it.
But blue is the color.
bright is the default light scheme,
of the never satisfied.

At any time,
it could propel a lightning bolt
in my direction.
It has nothing against me.
It’s merely random
in its indifference.
