I feel lonely
just looking at another lonely person

nothing we can share
nothing I can do

I can’t go find them company
or even a dog

maybe they don’t want
someone else around
anyhow

or a pet

or even the acknowledgement
that they’re another lonely person -

and I feel lonely enough
from my own loneliness –

so why is that other lonely person
looking at me like that?
