I am a thread pulled taut,
Caught between your kind intentions.
This thing called family
Will tear me into pieces.
Though you could not have known my threads were loose,
I cry out.

Your solutions only threaten to bend me out of frame.
Years agonizing in this gentle hell
Where I could never know myself.

I have torn apart the cage I constructed.
No longer a thread, I am a live wire,
Laid out in a straight line, ready to snap and flail wildly.

The complex knots which once formed around me,
Absorbing the shock of who I am,
Will not protect you
