Sister Thelma

Makyla Flowers

“Wake up, child! It’s Sunday school!” Aunt Thelma whacked Anthony’s leg.
“Five more minutes, mommy. I’ll get—” Anthony say, snoring away in his sleep.
Boy— Wake up! Aunt Thelma pulled him out of bed.
Anthony felt a sharp pain in his head and looked up. “My head, man!”
“Dry those eyes and get dressed,” Aunt Thelma said. “Be ready in five, or I’m whooping your flat buns!” She exits his bedroom.

Pastor Alfredo approached the microphone. “Amen! Amen! Applause for the choir!” The members applaud for a moment before resuming their attention on the pastor. “Today, Sister Thelma agreed to teach —”
Aunt Thelma burst through the doors and ran as she was racing against time. The church members whisper about her appearance as if she sinned.
Anthony shakes hands with Pastor Alfredo and joins him on the first-row bench.
“Hey, sisters, brothers, mothers, and fathers! How are we doing today?! Sorry for the dilemma. My nephew doesn’t like to listen to his elder,” Aunt Thelma said.
One day, Auntie, you’ll be sorry. Anthony nodded as he listened.
“There are seven deadly sins: pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, and sloth. In the chapter of Proverbs, let’s go to 16 verse 18, it reads—”
“Ain’t she a beauty, brother?” Brother Peter said, looking at Aunt Thelma.
“Trust me, man,” Brother Judas said, resting his arm on the bench’s railing. “I’m tempted to make her my woman with the riches in the world. She can’t say no to me.”
“What about me, brother? I want a taste of the pie,” Brother Peter said, looking at Brother Judas.
“Forget you, man. Didn’t you recently divorce your seven-year marriage?” He laughed softly.
“You stole my woman, devil’s spawn,” Brother Peter said, continuing to gaze at Aunt Thelma’s body.
“Young man,” Pastor Alfredo asked Anthony, “How are you and Sister Thelma?”
Anthony sighed. “She’s a handful, pastor. She shakes me out of my peace.”
Pastor Alfredo placed his hand around Anthony’s right shoulder and said, “Boy, women these days are either honestly or beautiful creatures from another dimension.”
What kind of advice is it? It’s pointless to understand now or in the future. Anthony smiled, nodded and agreed.
“Why, stupid son of —” Brother Judas said before getting a one-shot punch in the face.
Brother Judas lifted himself and started fighting Brother Peter.
The church heard a thundering bang and looked over to see their two brothers possessed.
“Excuse me. Excuse me!” Aunt Thelma got the brothers’ attention. “Bring your demons here. Let’s go!”
The brothers walked to the stage, and the pastor gave Aunt Thelma the holy water and she splashed it onto their bodies. “Oh, Holy Spirit! Help my brothers fight these demons, causing them to hate, poison, and vengeance!”
Please, God, please help me get my housing to bring a woman home in my heart. Anthony looked up to the ceiling.
“Lord Jesus! Cast these demons back to the world of darkness and beyond evil! In Jesus’ name!” Aunt Thelma shouted.
The lights blinked several times before they stopped entirely, and Brother Judas and Peter were on the floor.
The church members ran toward them.
The the pastor checked their pulse. “Unfortunately, the dark spirits took their souls. We pray and tell the news to their families,” Pastor Alfredo said.
Hope you’re satisfied, Aunt Thelma. You killed them! Anthony felt angry as he walks away from the members.
“Anthony, wait! Come back, boy! We ain’t done with Sunday school,” Aunt Thelma said, watching Anthony exit the door.
