Because we give it a name,
It haunts us like family.

Once a creature
That swallowed light,

Now the space between
Laughter and falling water.

Before gravity had a name,
There was none to speak of,

But that didn’t keep us
From wearing lead boots.

We have always been able
to rely on this pull downward.
