Two Dream

When two people walk the same dream,
That dream becomes more real than daylight.
We were breaking a law, standing at the door
Of an ancient hall, two electrons
Hugging the same point in space.
She drew back, but I pulled her through,
And we raced that dream together.
Now I can’t find the woman or the dream.
She appeared once, laid off by COVID,
Working the counter at CVS;
In the fizzy light, she almost glowed.
We were both wounded by a dream,
Blessed with a thorn that can’t be removed,
Marked for the rest of our waking lives.
In the dream, I reach for her,
Pulling her to me as I shout her name.
The outlet on the kitchen wall stares back,
Dreaming of toast as we both wait
For something to pop up, her face
Creamy brown, light yellow at the edges.
