close my eyes,
i can’t sleep;

heard somewhere once
that if you cannot sleep that
someone’s thinking about you—

i wonder if it’s you thinking
about me,

if so i wish i could cross the
oceans of time that parted us
and offer an apology that
mattered to you;

wish i could find a way to make
you understand that i know i was wrong—

i know you don’t owe me your time,
and i’m not entitled to give you an explanation;
but i wish that i could make it right somehow—

wish i could open my eyes in the past,
fixing the future in ways that made my future
seem as if would shine brighter than it is now;
a future that includes you.
