Oasis

An orphan is never alone.
The piano tuner is vibrating a quiet breath
that could shape the consciousness of humanity.
A night watchman strolls in shadows to reach between
sharp silhouettes of a spiked palm near a waterfall.

The blind piano tuner had perfect pitch
in the motel in El Cajon desert
as night skies black with diamonds frame a palm oasis.
The orphan cried into the evening
his ghost mother rocked him and he slept fitfully until twilight
as the night watchman made his final rounds before dawn and
disappeared in the frenzy of desire.
