Going Nowhere

John Grey

I’d gladly order you a taxi
or maybe one of those Uber cars.
And there’s always the bus or the train
and the airport’s not out of my way.

Yes, I know you have nowhere to go,
but the least I can do
is to help you get there.

And please don’t let my love stop you.
Nor how you feel about me.
We always promised each other
that when the time came
we wouldn’t stop the other from going.
And, by default,
when the time didn’t come,
same thing.

So pack your bags
with all you’ll need
for no place you have to be.
Say your goodbyes
where appropriate.
Kiss whatever lips
you will not never kiss again.

Just remember,
if you ever decide to come back from
some place you didn’t go,
I’ll welcome you back
as if you never went away.
