NIGHT WRITER

It’s late at night
as I sit here writing.
I hurt, and the writing helps
to put the pain in one place.

As I write it on the page,
It seems to ease from my heart.
At least a little.

I look at what I wrote
and say: “there’s the pain”...
It’s not in me anymore.

Of course, I know that’s not
totally true,
but there is comfort in it.

So I write.
After I’ve cried,
and after I’ve prayed.

I believe
things will look better
when daylight comes.
