there are days I feel dead inside,
the couch is as far as I get,
if I get there.

I eat nothing and
drink very little,
fasting for the sake of it.

a knife could be stuck
in me and I wouldn’t
feel it.

all my dreams could come
true but I wouldn’t
know it.

the world closes,
the lights go off,
sound is muffled.

a coyote creeps up behind me
but I don’t
blink.
