hesitation
Jack Henry
long day / night
walking empty streets
chase lamplights as they flicker
between verve and immortality
i stray beneath your fame,
moments after my departure
memory fresh / acid etched
to fevered limbs
your words flow
bounce between my bones
i cannot wipe your smile when
i finally close my eyes
strange passage
to where we are
where we stand and lie
side to side
i see you in windows
eyes drive atop eastern skies,
a single gesture pulls me back
stairways carry me toward
breathless arms
you wrap around my skeleton
whisper “i love you”
laugh
because you always laugh
when you are truly
sad
