He only walked his dog at midnight,
he only thought things in the dark.
A cigarette fingered loosely,
hands half dead on the leash,
the streets like honey, sucking at his feet.
He only walked his dog at midnight,
looked down on her and thought,
she shouldn’t have to drink water
out of a bowl with flies in it.
