birth caused your cells to stain over me
like remnants of water discoloring stone
yet no more my mother than
the preliminary cell in mitosis
you’ve destroyed hope by stepping on the one dandelion
that managed to grow through my sidewalk
made me feel as obvious as a lone facial hair
but don’t worry yourself, mom
