The Trouble With Vision

My senseless life only makes sense
When I squint.
Just out of focus,
Just out of reach.
Nothing a furrowed brow
Or determined gaze can’t mend.
I force the light to dance
On fluttering eyelashes,
Flickering in the blinding shadows.
I open my eyes wider for clarity
And I am suddenly
Cross-eyed with understanding.
