Survivor

Mel Waldman

His buddies died. But he survived and
returned with all his body parts.

Doesn't talk much now but his shriveled,
emaciated body speaks for him. When

he tries to be normal, he fails, especially
when he takes his wife and kids to the
beach.

The endless sand and wind sweep him back
to the war.

His traumatized flesh shakes.
His hands tremble.

Tonight, he wanders in the streets, carrying a
gun, searching for the enemy,
living in the past.
