My bike rides uneasy into that good night.
It’s lost its capacity to balance.
I pedal into bushes & walls.

My 75-yr-old bones rise to try again.
I’m a danger to myself & the traffic
& will end this divine comedy squooshed.

There’s supposed to be some wisdom in being old.
It comes from experience, I’ve been told,
but I’m a perpetual infant.

I’m angry at the children who ride well.
My bicycle takes me straight to Hell.
My bike rides happily into the flames.

I tire of these incendiary games.
Other old folks seem to ride like kids.
It drives me to drink, & I’m on the skids.

So next time let me try a tricycle.
Three wheels, they tell me, are better than two.
My bike rides uneasy into that good night.
I pedal into bushes & walls ...
