Pop It Open

    I wish the jar was bottomless. I wish I could reach in and know it heavy. Nothing like that security, a sense of fullness. It’s happiness to me.

    Scarcity worms all through it though. Worms all through the pulp, right beneath the lid. I can’t hear it working, but it never breaks its pace.

    Pop it open and see its tracks, the paths it took, the razed remains. Pop it open and gasp with hunger. Gasp with irritation, but not surprise. Dispense the weary rations, disciplined in line.

    I wish the jar was bottomless. I hate to sense the end.
