Only Trees

Michael S. Morris

only trees are gracious every moment
each sinewy leaf
palm up to heaven

raven in a million colors
wild moving textures
in unending forms

only portraits of shadows hang
on old gray fences
defying gravity and sunlight

where gratitude seems inborn
and not a creature, not a bird, as
Lawrence notes, feels remorse

only still waters reflect the untouched
the quiet constellations
ever changing
