Some Feelings Never Go Away

It’s that kind of hysteria
like
when you’re sitting in church
at your father’s funeral,
and someone leans in and whispers
“Hey, do you want a chocolate Velamint?”
and you laugh
and laugh
and can’t stop laughing,
even though your dad
has been cast in marble, laid out
as cold
as a pint
of mint chocolate
chip.
