Thirty
is far too old
and young
to call oneself an orphan,
but I do.
But I do, and
I have
for twenty years, and I
long
for strong arms to lift me,
for all I never had.


Time has healed
nothing
for me, growing
ever more un-beloved
as I age. Looking
not for surrogates,
stand-ins,
or shadows,
but for the thing
that should have been.


I certainly am
a sour girl
searching
for the sunny lemon sweetness
of certain safety.
Bring me back
to you,
bless me
with your kiss,
I whisper
As I curl into a ball
cradling the thing- elusive,
gnawing with its soft teeth,
forever expired.
