Empty Graves

The drunken car crash
part of the writer’s plan
for his funeral, his body in a coffin.
People dressed in black,
two graves in front of them,
watch as they are accompanied
by the coffin and the victim.
Someone refuses to fill the hole
and I hold the shovel,
only because a specter comes out
and tries to see if anyone
remembers his writing
even though he couldn’t put it on paper
or give it recognition.
