This is not a poem

RexSexton

Cold coffee, stale pastry, cheap whiskey,
as the winter sky slides by the window
of my cheap room.
This is not a poem. It is a postcard from
oblivion. Wish you were here, whomever
you are. Wish I wasn’t.
This morning I found a message in a
bottle floating in my toilet bowl.
It said: “Lost dreams, failed schemes,
unrequited loves, please flush after
using.”
The winds howl, the shadows prowl,
the walls shriek, the windows rattle,
the floorboards creak and the sewers
run to the sea – wait for me.
