When I awoke, sad, I could feel the pain
between my legs—I was so young
and he was so ugly
and he kept riding me
like an old horse
until I died.

And the blood ripped
—I was bleeding
when I stopped to pee
and I saw the face in the river
and I shall never forget
—his face, my face
turning the water red
watching my woman’s blood

like a wounded man.
