Waiting in the dark
Can I experience this again?

Our parent’s generation know where they were
when they heard about Pearl Harbor
My generation when Kennedy was shot
Everyone now remembers what they were doing
when the towers fell

For a time thereafter
headlines throughout the world proclaimed
WE ARE ALL AMERICANS
It was our best hope and opportunity
for peace, tolerance, and healing which
after a “righteous” revenge
we squandered to feed one man’s ego

But the movie WTC is about small human stories
those of the common victims
lost in the madness of power

Insane violence and military action
should only be a last resort
not a first option
And all those who plunge the world
into despair and chaos
death and destruction upon the innocent
who are not just collateral damage
Must be prepared to answer
for their transgressions
before the judgment
of providence and history

Lights up
We sit in silence
Reality returns

2749 dead in the WTC
2749 dead in Iraq
What does the one
have to do
with the other?
