She lost the dad
she never knew she had
before the age of six.
He’d gotten lost
in a world of his own.
She searched for ghosts.
She searched in vain.
She lost the church
when she was fourteen.
She couldn’t deal
with the conflicts between
the message taught
and the realities seen.
She lost the child she never had
when she turned
her back on pain.
Isolation rejects.
Distance protects
a life lived – regrettably –
without a dream.
